Freya woke in the inn to Lindblum, there was a moogle hooting outside her door about an important letter from the castle… her immediate thought was to shoot out of bed and grab her spear for Burmecia but, her heart fell suddenly as reality came back to her. She rubber her eyes wearingly and opened the window, but the second she saw the unmistakable scarlet crest of the castle of Alexandria, most importantly of Princess Garnet. She slid a finger through the seal and read it hastily, and then to be sure again…
“ca…captured…? That… THAT’S where he is!” she pounded her fist and stared wildly around the room looking for her clothes, tearing off her sleep wear and dressing hastily. She knew now, why wasn’t he at Tantalus? Why was he never at his favorite bar? Why couldn’t she find him? Why had she been unable to see Cid, all because of this… she ran out of the inn throwing a large amount of gil down at the table, hastily dressing her hauberk still was missing a few buttons, and her hair disheveled. The Inn keeper gave her a skeptical gaze
“was 120g a night ma’am” he said. She bit back with fierce aqua eyes
“Consider the rest a tip, I have to go” she as she bolted through the door and ran across the street to get to the airships. Her spear clunking heavily behind her, she tore off as fast as she could for Alexandria, tossing about approximations of money at people as she went, with polite bows in between, and greasing the palms of many to get her to Alexandria faster. She was well known now… and being one of the few Burmecians, let alone Burmecian Knights, she drew enough attention. She pulled her red hat over her face on the train as she listened to the idle chatter, sharpening her spear with a dry stone. A few children had spotted her from the other side of the car, and apparently where fans of the hunt in Lindblum, because they kept pointing at her and whispering about her being the queen.
Finally as she arrived in Alexandria, the sun was setting but not quite there. She looked around her, her mind set on one task. Things became simple now. This she was trained for . She had an objective, and with new information her world once again made sense. People wandered around the street, children running, the rain made it more difficult, and she checked into the most expensive hotel close to the palace. It wasn’t very suspicious, people knew she was wealthy, the reward for winning the Hunt every year was not small, alone. Finally, in her room, she closed the curtains and set to herself examining her equipment. She nodded to herself, and as the sun set, she fastened a rope to the top of her window. She thought she could get over the wall that way….
After several jumps, climbs, and unorthodox uses of her lance, she finally had made it to the outside of Garnets window. This is where it all comes down to she told herself, and she sighed, closing her eyes with a prayer… tugged the rope in her hand she had fastened to the hotel room ceiling, it seemed very snug. she inhaled sharply and knocked on the window with her knuckle, whispering
“Pst. Princess… Princess… It’s Lady Freya of the Hunt, I received your message, I’m here for you.” Her eyes couldn’t help but wander down to the pit that was below her, and she kept her face up at the sky breathing deeply. She awaited her response, fastening the rope to her ankle for extra security while she did.
Royalty had mostly been nothing but a curse for her, other times she would be given the chance to serve her people, but mostly, it was just a nightmare. Always had she been unable to help the people that mattered to her the most.
The sad thing was… people always helped her, and she couldn’t do anything for them in return.
A queen. Such an honorable title, but in reality, it meant nothing.
Freya nodded dutifully and bowed, deeply to Freya, in one elegant motion removing her hat and holding it to her stomach with a flourish.
“Of course. I’ve made preparations. I suspect we have 5 minutes before the guard is alerted, on my own I had no problem regaining access, You’re Highness” she said as she stood, back to the wall, just to the side of the window, and glanced out watching the patrol “no they didn’t catch me, but they will certainly see us when I take you down.”
